3 luxe bedroom looks & how to style them

FLORAL ROMANCE

Shades of pink are ever popular, particularly in bedrooms, where they can create a luxurious, relaxing space. Rae Maxwell, furniture designer and founder of Barnaby Lane, created a feminine look for this shoot (left) by contrasting pinks with darker colours. “The colour palette is a delicate balance, and while this is feminine, it’s not over the top or too girly,” she says.

How to pull the style together

Rather than using pinks and purples exclusively, let them pop against more masculine or neutral colours such as greys, teal green and tan. Create a relaxed look with linen bedding and Scandi-inspired furniture.

“Our Frederik bedhead was designed specifically for this setting to add an element that is quite masculine in look to balance it.”

Essential elements

  • Bedding, artwork and accessories in different shades of pale pink;
  • Furniture and throws in contrast colours;
  • A big bunch of flowers for your side table.

WHITE ON WHITE

This most simple of hues can create a warm, inviting space. Depending on your style, the look can be kept classic – crisp cotton sheets, four-poster bed and touches of gold and glass in side tables and lamps – or can be stripped back to a more relaxed, “boho” look.

This space (right) by Norsu Interiors is a great example of the latter.

The white brick wall acts as a bedhead and the black and white prints add contrast, without dominating the room.

“The raw and feminine nature of the Love Warriors Dogma print was our inspiration for creating this relaxed Scandinavian boho space,” Norsu co-owner Kristy Sadlier says.

“All aspects of the room have a subtle connection to this beautiful piece of art, to make it stand out as the main focal point.”

How to pull the style together

Choose different shades of white and a range of textures to create understated contrast.

Despite the neutral colours, Kristy says, the natural and textural elements in this space – such as timber, wool, linen and luxe Tibetan sheepskin – ensure it’s far from boring.

Essential elements

  • Mix materials in throws, cushions and rugs;
  • Good quality white linen;
  • Subtle colours, including blond timber.

Best tip

Create an additional relaxation zone by adding a chair, such as Norsu’s Byron Bay Gypsy hanging chair.

TEXTURE TROVE

Creating a beautiful space to relax and recharge is as much about considering the way a room feels as it is about the look. Using an array of textures adds a sense of balance and harmony to your bedroom and creates a luxurious sleeping space.

Arielle Lopresti, interior designer and co-founder of online homewares store,
Lo & Co, says choosing the right elements is key to making this style work. Metals, marble, velvet, knits and linens come together to create a tactile space.

“We’ve used different textured pillows, including velvet and linen, elements of brass through decor and lighting, and added marble homewares to create a luxe element,” Arielle says.

How to pull the style together

Consider which materials you want to use, and then repeat them throughout the room. Look for highly textured items, including chunky knit throws, and even sequined cushions if you’re a fan of some bling.

Essential elements

  • An upholstered bedhead
  • A mixture of fabrics in bedding, cushions and throws
  • A considered colour palette

Best tip

Create layers of texture on your side tables with books, trays and vases in various sizes and materials.
